Does A Different Christmas Mean You'll Eat Differently?

I’ve recorded this email as a video as well. You can find it on Facebook or Instagram.

I’m not exactly sure how, but it seems like Christmas is nearly here!

In fact, it looks like it has arrived in quite a few places already – isn’t it lovely seeing all the decorations up earlier this year.

This year has been, amongst other things, interesting. From a health and fitness perspective, we’ve had to challenge the way we thought things might be in different situations.

We often used to say, decisively, that if we only had more time, ate out less or spent less time socialising then we would be able to eat better and exercise more.

Well, that turned out to be pretty much the opposite of true for many of us, didn’t it!

The awkward truth is that we’ll eat better and exercise more if we actually want to, regardless of how busy we are.

I wonder if Christmas could be similar.

Often, when I talk to clients about those couple of weeks over Christmas, the off-track-ness of the festive season is based around social events. Most of which won’t be happening this year. There’s going to be less temptation, and the ability to have much more control over the way you eat and drink over Christmas.

So, the question is – does that mean Christmas will be less of an occasion to break your healthy eating regime?

Or, are you going to find yourself stocking the cupboards up with Christmas food and drink, because that’s just what we do at Christmas? The supermarkets are full of Christmas temptation and yumminess already – I’ve already bought a few bottles of mulled wine – I love the stuff!

There’s no right answer, but perhaps a good opportunity to reflect.

I’ll repeat what I say every year about Christmas: a few off track meals are NOT an issue at all over the long term. But, it is very easy to pile the weight on when we drink more than usual and when we tuck into lots of delicious Christmassy snacks, treats and puddings on top of our usual meals – and the not so usual meals.

How are you going to approach Christmas this year? Are you going to go all in and indulge the occasion to celebrate? Or will you use the opportunity to select the Christmas treats you really want to enjoy, and leave the extra calories from the other temptations off the table?
