First up, if you haven’t already, please come and join my new Facebook Group – it’s full of practical advice and ideas to think about when working on your health and fitness.
I meet quite a lot of people who feel that if they can just get their weight loss going by being ‘super strict’ or by following some kind of restrictive or diet for a short time, that they’d then be able to revert to a more moderate approach and continue to lose weight in a healthier way.
But, nine times out of ten this doesn’t work.
Why is that?
Well, the key to making sustainable changes (and therefore seeing sustainable results) is to go on the journey.
Of course, you’ll see changes pretty quickly once you brush up your diet, but beyond that, there are no real quick fixes – you’ve got to do the time and learn the skills.
We’re talking skills that make your do-able approach sustainable:
You have to learn the skills that allow you to make conscious decisions when faced with a particular situation – skills that you won’t gain if you simply don’t socialise for a few weeks.
You have to gain new skills by figuring out how to make meals which you want to eat and which will move you closer to your goals – and how to do this when you’re in a rush.
You’ve got to gain skills in moving towards your goals regardless of what else is going on.
You have to learn how to pick yourself up when you make choices which aren’t in line with reaching your goals – without it leading to a whole week off track.
So, rather than taking on a big diet undertaking, try to focus on being able to make choices which move you towards your goals, consistently.
